How to Get a HERE Technologies API Key and Use It with CDXGeodata

With the growing demand for accurate mapping and location services, HERE Technologies offers a comprehensive API suite to meet these needs. This guide will help you obtain a HERE Technologies API key and integrate it with the CDX Technologies CDXGeodata service.

Step 1: Sign Up for a HERE Developer Account

  1. Visit the HERE Developer Portal: Go to platform.here.com.
  2. Create an Account: Click on "Create a Free Account." You can register using your email address.  No credit card is required for the “Limit” plan, but you will need to provide one to get an increased number of free requests with the “Base” plan.
  3. Verify Your Email: After registration, check your email for a verification message from HERE and follow the link to activate your account.

Step 2: Create a New Applicatioo and Obtain Your API Key

  1. Log in to Your Account: Access your account on the HERE platform after verification.
  2. Create a New Project:
    • In your portal dashboard, click on "Go to Access Manager”
    • Click on “Register New App” in the upper right
    • Enter an App name such as CDXGeodata and click “Register”
  3. Generate an API Key:
    • Once the App is successfully created click on the “Create API” key button.
    • Copy the generated API key, as you will need it to configure CDXGeodata. You can create two API keys per application..

Step 3: Insert the API Key into CDXGeodata

  1. Log in to Your CDXGeodata Account: Open your CDXGeodata online account sing the credentials provided by CDX Technologies (not your HERE credentials)
  2. Access the CDXGeoData product area:
    • Expand the CDXGeodata features section on the left by clicking the “+” sign.
    • Click on “Manage My API keys”
  3. Enter Your HERE API Key:
    • Click on the CDXGeodata API key you want to update..
    • Press “Edit”
    • Paste in your API key and press “Update”.  Keys can now be entered for HERE Technologies, Google and Bing Maps.  You also have the option to apply this key to all available Geodata keys.
  4. Test Your Integration:
    • Use a CDXGeodata feature, such as geocoding, to ensure that the API key is functioning correctly.

You can also enter the HERE API key in Excel if you are using the CDXGeodata Add-in or templates using the “Settings” features in these applications.
